Foto de stock - Tower of London from Tower Bridge, London, c1945-c1965. The four turrets belong to the White Tower, the largest tower on the site which occupies a central postion. On its completion in 1097 the tower provided accommodation for the king, but in later centuries was used as a prison, armoury and military store. It has been described as the 'most perfect medieval fortress in Britain'. On the left the infamous Traitor's Gate can be seen. In the foreground, on the river embankment is a pillbox, an example of a more modest twentieth century military structure. Nearby, people stroll by the river and enjoy the view.
