On underside of the hand wing is a small white "c" mark which gives the butterfly its name. Larval host plants: Urtica dioica, Humulus lupulus, Ulmus sp, Salix caprea. Found in woodlands and alluvial forests. Butterfly hibernates. Flies two generations per season. Caterpillars found June-July. Adults emerge April-October. Fond of rotting fruit and feces.
